The whole day yesterday when they had the chance our guides were telling us how fantastic the Tongariro crossing was and that it is ranked as one of the top 10 walks in the world.  I didn't know anything about it at all and in fact had never heard of it until then but I was really excited about doing it when I found out that.  So it was more than a bit of a bummer when we found out that due to adverse weather we couldn't do it at all as the route had been closed.

Our guides had another walk up their sleeves so we did that instead. The walk went through an area of National Park and we could see a lot of snow on the hills above us.  It was absolutely freezing that day, it had snowed overnight and we had to wrap in up in loads of layers.  It was like being back on the Inca trail again!  It was a nice walk, not strenuous at all and the highlight for me was being accompanied by Debbie.  We had a good girly chat and a laugh which more than helped take our mind of the cold!

I subsequently found out that it wasn't possible to do the crossing for another month after we were there so that made me feel a bit better!  It was a shame but we were there in late spring so I suppose it was too much to ask for.  Oh well, next time I'm NZ...   ;-)

That afternoon we visited an adventure park that had recently opened as the guides had been given a free ticket for it so they decided to check it out.  In order to give away the free ticket they had a name that tune competition which I was very close to winning but I got pipped to the post by Dave.  He therefore got a free Bungee jump - rather him than me!  I would have opted for a canyon swing or the flying fox as they boasted the longest one in the North Island!  Quite a lot of people opted to do the flying fox so we were there for quite a while and we all watched Dave & Tom do their bungee jump.  Poor Dave was absolutely bricking it, it was his first time!

We had quite a lot of driving to do that afternoon so it became a bit of a long day in the end.  We were longer than expected at the adventure park but it worked out to our advantage!  As we only got to our destination at around 9pm we got fish & chips for tea and we all got a free upgrade so we didn't have to bother with the tents!  All in all a good day!!
