This morning I got the Muni down to the famous Pier 39.  This area has lots of shops and restaurants, a seal colony and a mini funfair!  I had a wander around for a little while and had a look in a couple of shops, saw the seals and admired the view across to Alcatraz and both the Bay Bridge and the Golden gate Bridge.

I then walked to the end of the Pier in an area known as Fishermans Wharf passing the ferry terminals for all the cruises and many tourist shops and fish retaurants along the way.  The tour I am following was pointing to go away from the harbour but as I looked along the Golden Gate Bridge didn't look too far away and I knew that it was the ideal time to get my photos of it.  It was a beautiful sunny day today, I believe I'm being very fortunate with the weather as it was quite poor a few days ago before I arrived.

I have walked for hours again today but it's not very noteworthy for the purpose of this blog.  Suffice to say I walked along Marina and then across the Golden Gate Bridge.  There have been a few days on my trip to date when I have thought, "Am I actually here doing this right now?!" and congratulate myself on making the decision to take this trip.  Today was certainly one of those days.

At the other end of the Golden Gate bridge I was going to walk to Sausilito which is a lovely little town and get the ferry from there back to the city centre but the normal route was closed off.  The suggested alternative route looked too dangerous to walk along as there was no pedestrain path just a lane for cyclists.  If I had walked along it I would have been forcing them onto the narrow main road or they would have forced me, either way not good!

A bus came along that advertised $10 return fare from the city centre so my logic calculated that a one way trip was therefore $5.  Apparently my logic was wrong as I was informed that it was still $10 from the bridge back to town.  No explanation as to why a single journey is the same price as a return so out of principle I didn't get on the bus.  I have later realised that they are only tolled one way and it is $6 so that's probably why he charged $10 from the end of the bridge back to town but he wasn't exactly forthcoming in explaining this so he just seemed like a rip off merchant at the time!

Another bus came along which was one of the hop on hop off tour buses.  The driver started to speak to me so I asked him if I could go on the bus just to get back to town.  I was given the choice of $5 back to town or $10 to drive around Sausilito and go back to town.  I took the second option and I'm glad I did.  Sausilito is a very beautiful little place, if I have time I will get the ferry back there and spend more time in it.  Our guide told us that according to local legend this is where Otis Redding wrote Dock of the Bay. Not sure if that's true but it's a nice story!

Overall I think the day is best summed up in photos- I've taken hundereds I think!!  So here are a few for you all to look at.
