Day of departure has finally arrived. I've been so busy at work that I haven't had time to get excited. In fact, the past week has left me worn out. Sure hope sleep prevails on the long flight overseas. 10+ hours in the air, direct flight. That will be a challenge if I don't manage to sleep through a good portion of it.
We are going to be landing to overcast skies, the forecast tells me. Sun is to break on Saturday, temp will feel like it's 24C (clocking in at 19C -- Turkey's climate sounds remarkably like Southwestern Ontario's - cool) so our first full day in the country is shaping up to be a good one. Especially nice to see given we are doing a walking tour of the old city.
So many things to explore and take in over the next two weeks... not sure how I'm going to get it all packed in but I'm going to give it a right royal try. We land late afternoon tomorrow, get picked up and are shuttled to our hotel. After settling in, first order of the day is going to be to find some fabulous fare (though, small amounts and light/bland for this first foray... let the local flora build up in my system first, no desire to have traveler's sickness!) and a glass of wine. Maybe a street-side cafe, so we can watch the city pass by.
Anyoot, I went out and purchased a netbook so I can directly record journal entries to the travel blog and not have to rescribe my thoughts (hopefully). I have paper journals, too, for when it's not feasible to fire up the netbook (or I have no power supply and a dead battery). Cool little Toshiba model that tucks very neatly into my satchel. I expect it will come in handy, especially when it comes to storing pics and videos (has a 160gig harddrive, bonus). Have loaded Skype onto the machine, too, so that I can video-chat with the kids every now and then.
So, yeah, don't think I can do too much more to get ready now. Time to go...
