Not surprisingly, we had a rather late start today, and our grand plans of Lake District, or even (ridiculously)Edinburgh were promptly shelved. A few random hangovers and the G8 march made that idea seem a little ambitious.

So we settled for the cheesiest seaside village of them all, where finally I'd be able to tick my 'donkey on the beach' checkbox, along with the 'penny arcade', 'fairy floss stands' and 'mushy peas' checkboxes (I have a lot of checkboxes for this trip).

The day was far more in keeping with what we'd expected from an English seaside visit...freezing water, somewhat grey sand and lots of mad Englishmen trying to convince themselves that watersports in this temperature are fun. (surely wearing a drysuit and gumboots on a jetski tells you that IT'S TOO COLD???) Nonetheless, it was a great place to eat the greasy food we required (the fish and chips were fantastic, and I am now a mushy pea convert) and sleep a bit longer (even if we had to rug up...see photo)
