Today was the family visit day. Alex picked us up around 11 and drove us down to their grandparent's nursing home down near Pilsen (Plzen). We found Grandad alone in his room while Grandma was having a checkup, so after a brief chat, we left to get some lunch and return later.
Pilsen is an attractive town, with enough life to keep it interesting without the maddening crowds of Prague. We ate well at a pub (is there anywhere else to eat?!) on the decking (it was a very hot day) and wandered back to the car through the huge town square (really, it seemed to large to be strictly useful) and headed back to the nursing home.
We were clearly eagerly anticipated, and conversation bubbled along easily. For those who speak Czech of course. Funnily enough, Grandad found it hard to grasp that I didn't speak Czech and chatted to me, directing questions and jokes, to which I tried to formulate appropriate responses. I wasn't too successful though. He leaned over to Alex and said frustratedly 'I don't think she understands me!'
Back in Prague, dinner at the dog pub (I told you!)
