We arrived 21st of December and was happy to finally be out of Bangkok!!
We had been told about an elephant nature park for rescued elephants, so booked a day to visit and it was the most brilliant day! And a great xmas present for me and ben to each other!!
The elephants that live here have all been rescued from nasty owners who hurt them and mistreat them, injured ellies that need medication and to be looked after and little orphans!? (The pictures are already on the Bangkok entry if you would like to have a look?! It is truly an amazing and peaceful place!!! We fed them bathed them and learnt alot about all the mistreatment of them in Thailand?!?!
We met a really nice couple that day Ali and (who are in some of the pics) and ended up drinking until late
getting very tipsy..... It was an excellent way to end the best day!
So Xmas eve and christmas day was spent around the pool not feeling like Christmas at all, being 33 degrees....mmmmmmm!!! We both had a pedicure Christmas day..... Bens feet looked so pretty!!!
We both missed home over Xmas of course but those of you that know me well know what a baby I am when it comes to the Xmas celebrations so I did find it hard Xmas day?!?! But messaging friends and speaking to family helped! (a few tears from me though) :-)
We found an Irish bar that served a proper Xmas dinner turkey with all the trimmings, with NO BRUSSELS much to my delight!!! We really enjoyed it!!!! Not as nice as home but good enough!!!
We Then decided on boxing day to move on so caught the bus to a place called Pai ! It Was lovely so chilled out and laid back..... Very hippy like and they loved the reggae there!! We had a little hut by the river! We ended up staying for nearly a week!!!! My god it was cold at night though?!.... We literally slept in hoodies tracksuit bottoms socks and I had a scarf. How is it possible to be 30 degrees by day and what felt like -10 by night??? I just cannot understand?!
we hired a moped for a few days and went to some caves.... Waterfalls....And natural hot springs was very strange like taking a hot bath in the sun!!
We made some good friends including a pair of young Thais ( who tried teaching us some of the Thai language, which was forgotten as quickly as they told us) and spent most evenings drinking and chatting around the campfire!
NYE was spent here and we was looking forward to seeing the new year in around the camp fire with a few beers!! Unfortunately Ben cane over ill and had to go to bed ( bad tummy won't spare you the details) so I sat with some new friends I had just made with a little bucket of cocktail! Happy new year I said to my drunk self whilst Ben was snoring his little head off!!!
It was beautiful..... At midnight EVERYBODY ( it seemed everybody) in Pai had a lantern that they set off and you could see nothing but orange light and White lanterns floating away in the sky!!!! Gave me goosebumps !!
Anyway Ben was still ill on new years day so we found a more comfortable room with a tv so he could rest in bed..... Which he did for a few days ?! ( may I just add that the bed in our river side hut was like a ROCK and we woke up every morning feeling like we had been beaten by a heavtweight as well as freezing all night) the new huge double bed was like heaven!!!! And not having to spend an hour thawing out every morning was a bonus!
After a few days of Ben resting and me reading about 3 books, we decided to go to Cambodia (thanks to family back home giving us Christmas money)......a very long journey we were both about to find out!!
