So first of all, we docked in the water, and had to take a smaller boat to the island. Then, you had a choice of taking a gondola to the top, or hike up a ton of stairs OR ride donkeys. What do you think Jen and I did? OF COURSE DONKEYS. We had heard about them since the beginning of the week, and were always gabbering excitedly when we heard them mentioned. The other Canadians were pretty excited, as well. The aussies and kiwis thought we were VERY STRANGE (they didn't hide it or anything) because we were getting so excited to ride asses. But, it did live up to expectations... I got a nice white one which was the leader and I named him Pegasus. Jen had a brown one behind me, but was constantly worried about getting smacked with other donkey "pee tails".
But yes, we finally got to the top, and it is beautiful. There are doors that look like they're just opening to certain death off the cliff, but really they have stairs just beyond and lead to cafes/resturants that are cut lower into the cliff. The stores are THE BEST here. Most of the other islands had more touristy/kitchy stores, or their jewelery was beads/gold.. the stuff I don't like. But here, it's definitely more MODERN. The more simplistic, minimalistic lines and just stuff that young people want to wear. I spent more money on something here, that I shouldn't have, but it was a awesome present. The clothes were also cooler here than on the other islands.
We left after 3-4 hours which was ridiculous. I am definitely coming back. I would say so far that the ultimate romantic trip would be just Myknonos and Santorini. But we heard rumors it is massively expensive to stay on Santorini. Time for Andrew to win that lottery.
