Well the truely crazy Latvian experience has continued.

Chris and I travelled for 3 hours each way yesterday to Liepaja to sleep the night in an ex-soviet prison. We were the only two people in this place where from 1905 until 1997 people were interogated by the KGB. Pretty scary place. Sleeping on wooden beds as the prisoners did in a cold, dusty, dark jail cell was an experience compared with the norm hostel and beers situation. Unfortunately there was not an opportunity to pay for Russian guards to interogate us and beat the crap out of us all night - which we would have happily parted with a few dollars for.

Today has been as brilliant as the bungy, which was one of the stand out moments of the trip. Yesterday we had difficulty arranging our skydiving in Latvia, from the old Riga airport. It forced me to make an effort running around the hostel ensuring we had a big enough group ready to jump out of a dodgy old Russian plane from 800m with a piss poor ex-Soviet military parachute for the ridiculous price of $50 Aussie. So with a big group from the hostel we went through the training in a Russian military style fashion on how to jump out of a plane and land without breaking your legs / pelvis / head. Our group was slightly smaller by the time it came to signing on the dotted line to jump. Then it was up, up and away - 800m static line jump. UNBELIEVABLE, The instructor getting us over the drop zone and giving it the "Go, Go Go!" and it was time to trust my ex-Soviet paratrooper pack and through myself out of an ancient biplane doing 150 plus kmph!!! What a feeling, only made better when I looked up to see my shoot working and then a safe landing with no broken bones! Such a massive sense of achievement. In Three days I have fired some of the most powerful guns in the world, bungied over an amazing river from a cable car and jumped from a 50 year old Russian plane all in Lativa, Yep loose - very loose!!!!

Just to let you all know this is what my mum thinks of the whole deal...

Your email scares me, for all the following reasons:-
- You were always taught NOT TO PLAY WITH GUNS
- Why do you have to Bungy Jump & Sky Dive, think of your poor mother
- Whats this about a Russian Jail
KEEP SAFE - NO MORE GUNS, BUNGY JUMPS 0R SKY DIVE & ALWAYS REMEMBER AUSSIE BEST
PLACE IN THE WORLD TO LIVE.
Love Ma
