A visit to South Carolina isn't complete without a stop in Charleston. Charleston is the oldest city in South Carolina, and it is South Carolina’s second largest city with about 130,000 people (Columbia, the capital, being the largest).  Throughout the 1700’s and half of the 1800’s, Charleston was one of the top ten biggest cities in the United States, but today it hovers around at a modest 76th biggest.  However, last year Charleston was the #1 city in the United States for most attractive residents (as well as friendliness).  Charleston’s skyline is dominated by church steeples, and the streets are lined with low-rise rows of restaurants, shops, and beautiful mansions.  The city is famous for its history (first shots of the Civil War, notably), which the tourism video will absolutely sell you on (See: Charleston, I recommend the "History Lives" video), but it is also a modern community with festivals, events, and markets.  Charleston is a unique and beautiful American city, unlike any other which manages to balance city life with small town feel.

The first set of pictures is from when I was actually there visiting some friends for New Years.  I included some from other times I have been there so you could get a better idea of what the city is like.  I ended up staying a bit longer than expected due to the snow in the upstate which kept me from going home.  Once again, snow thwarted my time in America.
