By the time I thankfully landed in Kentucky, I only had enough to time to eat lunch and snap a quick family photo before getting in the car and driving back to South Carolina.

Louisville has about 600,000 people and is most famous for Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby is a famous thoroughbred horse race held annually, a race that Her Majesty the Queen visited in 2007.  The Kentucky Derby festival is largely an excuse to enjoy the summer sun, bet life savings on "The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports," adorn your head with overly large hats, and drink mint juleps.

Louisville essentially formed because the location near the Falls of the Ohio River.  Ships would have to stop before reading the Falls of the Ohio, and, thus, Louisville grew. Louisville rose to prominence due to the slave trade.  Of course, after the Civil War, Louisville focused more on agriculture and manufacturing, especially during WWII.  Today, Louisville is home to many corporate headquarters.

I also included some pictures in this entry as well of a previous visit to Louisville since my visit this time was so short.
