Didn't get to sleep last night until quite late because of the heat and because I had slept so much in the afternoon.  However, this morning has been very pleasant.  Had breakfast with Olga and Tomás (the cat).  Olga and I chatted for quite a bit about life in Spain vs. Argentina (where she is from) vs the USA.  It is interesting staying with someone who has lived 9 years in Spain but who is from another country originally.  She has a different perspective than someone who is from here.  Her husband, Vicente, is from Spain.  I feel like I have the best of both worlds by staying with them because I can get both his point of view and hers.

Today is a bit cloudy and much cooler.  I´m glad.  I really can use with the break from yesterday´s heat.  I´m sitting on the balcony right now and the air feels really nice.  Tomás is with me, sleeping in the other chair on the balcony.

Tomás is an interesting cat.  Kind of like Jekyll and Hyde.  One minute he wants to be your friend and get lots of attention, and the next minute he decides to bite you.  I will have to learn to read the signs to see when he wants to be patted and when he doesn´t.  Occasionally he jumps high into the air for no apparent reason and sometimes he jumps up high to catch the doorknobs and open the doors.  He is quite adept at opening doors.  He likes to go out on the balconies and also out into the hallway of the apartment building.  He goes out into the hallway, runs a lap or two of the 8th floor (the floor the apartment is on) and then comes back to the apartment door and asks to come back in.  (He can open the door to go out into the hallway but not to come back in.)

This afternoon I will meet the other people from the program I am attending and then my days will become much more focused.  I will be in class every day and also have readings to do each day.  I´m looking forward to getting to know the other people in the program and to start class. I´m glad that I came over a few days before the start of the program so that I am not so tired and jet-lagged today.  I know that some of the people in the program just arrived in Spain yesterday.  They must be exhausted today.  It definitely takes a few days to get accustomed to the time change. I met one of the participants, Carol, in Cincinnati back in June when I was grading AP exams.  I´m looking forward to seeing her again.

The clouds are beginning to disappear and it is getting warmer out.  Hmmm....hope it doesn´t get too warm today.  I like the cool, fresh air.

Vicente just got home from work and my computer needs to be charged up.  Hasta luego.

Hey Cathy, just read your last three entries all at once - train ride, arrival, apt etc. Sounds like you weathered the travel well and its great after that travel to arrive and have everything be so nice and easy for you! It sounds like where you are staying will be a very pleasent place to be. I envy the ease in which you are able to travel being a fluent speaker, not to mention being able to converse with the people there. Without these things, the experience is not as full. Looking forward to the next one!

It's great you have a balcony, and a balcony cat! The apartment sounds perfect, and having such warm, accommodating hosts is ideal--not to mention good cooks!
