Where I stayed
Thurs 26th Apr cont.
We arrived into Liberia around 3.30pm after two police check points wanting to check passports on the way. We then checked for bus info at the bus station and were faced with having to catch a bus at 1pm tomorrow that went out of our way to get to where we wanted to go. As we were always going to stay here over night, we took a cab into town to a hotel we'd heard about but it wasn't up to scratch for the amount they were charging. So we checked the guide book for others and walked across to the next block to another place. This one was much nicer for the price and as a bonus, it had a fridge and microwave that we could use for tea and milk for breakfast in the morning. Result! We then wandered to the square, a block or two up and got some money from the cash point and then had dinner in the local chinese. On the way back to the hotel, we bought a few bits from the supermarket and settled in for the night with a shower and a bit of guess what, cable TV!
Fri 27th Apr.
Woke up at 4.30am to noise from next door, then again at 6am with Cat rushing off to the bathroom. When the alarm went off at 6.45am, neither of us wanted to get up and Cat wasn't feeling too well, so we went back to sleep and decided to stay another day. Around 9.30am we got up had a late breakfast and took it easy for the morning. Around lunchtime we headed out to get some empanadas and to look at two other parks marked on the map. They weren't much to write home about so we had our lunch in the main square. We then did a bit of shopping and then headed back to the room for a bit more rest. At 5.30pm we headed out again but this time to get chicken and chips for dinner and an ice cream for dessert. Then we went back to the hotel for a relaxing evening.
Sat 28th Apr.
Woken up early again with more noisy neighbours around 5.30am, so just dozed until 6.45am then got up to have breakfast. Cat still wasn't feeling that great but thought she should make the journey ok. So we loaded up, checked out and caught a cab on the other side of the square to the bus terminal. On arrival we located the bus that we were advised to take by the hotel/tour agent and were about to get on. Upon asking if it was the correct bus to take to get a connection to Monteverde, a bus terminal coordinator came over and said no you need to catch the one to Irma and change to the direct bus at 11am. During all this the bus left and we were left with only that option. We'd previously discounted that route because we were told the connecting bus didn't leave until 3pm. He assured us that there was one at 11am so we waited until 8.25am, got on and prayed.
