25th Nov. cont.

Arrived at Kings Canyon National Park around 12pm, checked in at the Visitor Centre to pick up a map and find out what roads were open and then headed straight to the Grant Tree Trail. This trail leads to one of the world's five largest living trees and it was this tree that President Coolidge named the Nation's Christmas Tree in 1926. Afterwards we then drove towards Cedar Grove but couldn't get all the way there as the road was closed, so we stopped at Junction View for a lovely view of Kings Canyon and had lunch there to. We then turned round and headed back towards the Visitor Centre but continued passed to Sequoia National Park. Here, we again stopped at the Visitor Centre to check what was open and then drove to the General Sherman Tree, As it was winter now, the summer carpark and therefore trail were closed and the only car park was the disabled access which was now there winter car park. However, this was so small, vehicles were parking everywhere, including on the side of the very windy road. We tried to get in the car park but couldn't, so we then tried parking on the side of the road but got moved on by a park ranger. We then decided to camp in the car park until someone moved. It only took a minute and we found a space large enough for Brian. We then headed off to go and see the General Sherman Tree which is the world's largest living tree in volume. We returned to Brian and vacated our space for some other stressed driver to take and started the long and winding road out of the park. Nearly out of the park, on a couple of switch backs, people were stopping in there cars to take photos of, you guessed it, a bear. A bit further down we saw another bear jam. Amazing, we haven't seen bears in a while and then two come along at once! We left the park to a beautiful sunset and began a search for an RV park for the night.
