We then continued on to Del Rio. Here we fuelled up again and stopped at Amistad Recreation Area where we did a short walk to view the lake and then shortly afterwards, made another stop at Amistad Dam. In the middle of this dam is the border of Mexico and the US. We had been told by a park ranger that if we ask nicely at border control they would let us walk to the middle and take photos of the monuments representing both countries. So we did, and they let us. We left the dam, laughing at the fact that this would probably be the closest we'd get to going to Mexico this trip, as at the moment that country is not safe, (apparently).
