Red Trail Camp ground
24th July cont.
From Dickinson we carried on along the highway until we reached Medora stopping on the way at the view point of Painted Canyon in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Once in town we booked into a nearby (for a change) campsite, parked up and then walked round the corner to buy some tickets for the afternoon comedy and evenings musical shows. By the time we'd bought the tickets, we had just enough time to have an ice cream and then get off to the Old Town Hall for the comedy show. The show lasted for around an hour and a half and was indeed quite funny with some magic, singing, juggling and some right tom foolery. After the show we walked back to have a rest in the van before making beefburgers on the BBQ and getting ready for the evening show at 8.30pm. At 8pm we drove round to the open theatre and settled into our reserved seats and enjoyed the evenings entertainment of singing Cowboys and gals and the odd apperance of Theodore Roosevelt. The show finished around 10.30pm and we drove back to our campsite to get some sleep.
25th July.
Up at 8.30am, had breakfast, caught up on some emails and then packed up and ready to go by 10am. We headed out of the campground and drove to the other end of the village to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. We waved our annual pass at the barrier and stopped at the Visitor Centre to get a stamp for our parks passport. Then we drove round the 36mile tourist loop taking in the lovely scenery (especially from the top of Buck Hill) and spotting plenty of prairie dogs and the best of all, buffalo. We passed one buffalo as he was walking up the road not bothered by anyone, so close you could have touched it! That excitement over, we headed down to the Visitor Centre, topped up our water and then had a tour of Theodore Roosevelt's log cabin, the actual one he lived in whilst he was living in the Badlands in 1884.
