17th July cont.

So half an hour down Highway 1, we thankfully turned off and with the wind behind us headed north looking for a nice lake. Half way up Highway 56 there seemed to be a big house at the end of the road, but it soon became clear that, it was in fact a house, but it was on the back of a low loader and taking up all the road! There was a truck in front of it with a wide load sign on it driving down the middle of the road, which was the first clue that told me that I had to pull off the road and nearly into a nearby field. It wasn't really that close, but it seemed it at the time! We have seen programmes on TV called 'Mega Moves' but we just sat there in amazement that there was a house travelling in the opposite direction. That mind blowing moment over, we carried on our journey until I got tired and asked Cat to have a go. Bearing in mind that Cat has not driven much on the right hand side of the road, she did quite well after a few 'stay out of the ditch' and 'keep on the road'! In fairness, Brian is not the easiest van to drive in a straight line with bumpy roads and wind blowing in all directions. Also keeping to the middle of the right hand side of the lane took me a while to conquer (still does at times). So when we reached a turn off that we needed to take we swapped over and fuelled up on the cheaper petrol that we had found and also enjoyed a strawberry milkshake to sooth our dry throats. When we left the petrol station and finally found the sign for the right road, we carried on along Highway 15 which lets just say, needs some work! An hour or so of dodging pot holes here and there later, we reach the next turn off to Highway 16 and carried on out of Saskatchewan province and into Manitoba. Not far after the border we reached our free campsite, with free electric hook-up, in the town of Russell. Once we'd settled in, Cat made dinner whilst I relaxed and supervised! After another episode of Desperate Housewives we got off to bed.

19th July.

Had a bit of a lie-in till 8.30am then got up and had breakfast. Around 10pm we headed off on Highway 16 towards Winnipeg.
