4th July.
When we arrived we went to West-Can to try and take the wrong plug socket that we bought back to see if we could get a refund, but they said that they are no longer connected with them but happily exchanged it for the correct one. The other evening we noticed an oil leak and thought it best to get it checked out now rather than later and went to a very helpful mechanic round the corner. He said that the main rear seal could be leaking a bit (as they do when they've been sitting for a while) and suggested that we get the oil changed (with a 15W40 diesel engine oil, it's said to be better for hot running camper engines) and have an additive put in to hopefully seal the leak. So we drove up to Lord Co. for the additive and then Walmart to get the oil changed. Another $75 later it was done and fingers crossed that will do it! From there we headed back into town to the Visitor Centre to check email, then park up to do a walk of the city to find the little people. The little people were 23 painted fire hydrants representing people from the area. As we were near the last one (the Engineer) we did the tour backwards and at this one was the artist that started the whole thing off Jerii Cassady touching up her handy work. We spent a few hours walking around looking at her art work and finished off at no.1 (the Teacher) at around 5pm. We then walked back to the car park and cooked dinner before moving on to another car park that we had spotted on the walk round that we could hook up in. We have found that some street lights have plug-ins on them and you can usually get away with using them. This one is outside a local hospice and in the middle of a quiet residencial area and we're hoping it will be ok. Once parked, we walked up to Safeway to get ice cream for dessert and then returned back to the van to enjoy it. As it was still quite early, we sat and read for a while and we did notice a woman in a electric wheelchair and her companion taking notice of us parked in the car park and hooked up, but nothing was said so we shall see. After watching some episodes of Desperate Housewives we sorted ourselves out for bed and got some shut eye. Well, as you can guess they waited until we got comfy and around midnight a private security guy knocked on the window and asked us to move on. He suggested going up to Walmart and camping up there. So we took down a few curtains and drove out to Walmart where we found two massive RV's and a couple of little ones in the car park. So we parked up near the top, plugged-in, drew the curtains and got back to sleep.
5th July.
Woke up early at 7am and got up around 8am as we knew that the store would be open by now and didn't want to outstay our welcome. As the store was open, we used their WC and then went back to the van to make breakfast. By 9am we headed off back through town and continued north on Highway 97 to Prince George.
