22nd June cont.

We filled the water tank and got off on our way towards Whistler. We stopped just up the road to take a look at Alice Lake which was aready getting quite busy and then carried on to Brandywine Falls. Another amazing set of falls and we decided that we'd take the 2hr trek to the suspension bridge. It was quite a walk in the end and was a bit more than the 2hrs and 4k stated, it was 4k one way but the timings were only off by half an hour or so. After a rest in the van we headed off on Highway 99 again. Half an hour later we reached Whistler, which to be honest was such a tourist trap, (you had to pay a fortune to park anywhere), we decided to carry on to Pemberton. On the way we stopped at Nairn Falls where we walked to the falls and then cooked dinner. At most of these provincial parks they have campsites, this one had a no amenities (no hook up, showers, etc.) and would cost $18. So we thought we would drive a little further to see if we could find a free park spot and if not, we could return here. However, in Pemberton, a very nice small town, we found a lovely spot by the river to park up and sleep for the night. So after a lot of mozi swatting, we settled in for the night, watched another episode of Hustle and got off to bed.

23rd June.

Got up at 8.30am still feeling pretty tired from being kept awake by mozzies! After breakfast we headed to the Visitors Centre for info on the area and to use their wi-fi, fill up the water tank and empty the toilet. Once all the necessities were done we headed north on Highway 99 again, stopping at Joffre Lakes where we had a half km walk through snow to get to the lower lake which is beautiful. We decided not to continue on to the middle or upper lakes as the trails were probably covered in more snow than this one! We then carried on over some pretty steep mountain roads (that Brian didn't like much) and stopped for lunch at a nice view of the river below.
