Woke up to a fantastic view of snowy mountains and the moon reflecting off the frozen lakes below, it was quite magical. We arrived into Anchorage at 12.30am and once we'd landed we had to stay in our seats for a while as there had been a medical emergency on-board so we had to wait for the paramedics to do their stuff. It's amazing how impatient some people can be. Once the drama had been sorted we made our way to bagage claim and then to the Alamo car rental desk to collect our hire car. Car loaded and by 2am we headed towards a hostel that we were going to check out later in the day. As it was too early (way too early) to check in, we found a nice quiet street to pull over and get some sleep until a more decent hour. Around 8.30am we woke up and then drove round the corner to the hostel to see if they had anything for tonight. Luckly the room was free pretty much straight away and we were even given a free breakfast which we weren't expecting. Once checked in we walked into the centre (stopping along the way to admire the beautiful snowcapped mountain views) to check out the visitor centres, (one of which had a very funny older gentleman) and got some pretty useful info. Whilst in town there were several hot dog stands around, so we had a reindeer dawg which was a little spicy. On the way back we stopped at the grocery store for some supplies for dinner, still loving the views. Back at the hostel we had a rest and then cooked dinner and ate it in the kitchen chatting to a couple from Wellington in New Zealand until the sun went down, which was pretty late at around 9.30pm (but still light out). We then showered and watched some TV until it was time for some sleep.
14th May.
Got up at 8.30am and had steak and eggs for breakfast, (we're still not used to the strange things they eat here for breakfast) then checked out of the room around 10.
