13th Oct

After a restless night and the sound of a dog yelping (the couple next to us had a dog under a blanket) we woke up to look out the window at switchback roads cutting it's way through the desert. At around 9am we were given a dry roll some sweet cheese crackers (like Ritz) and a carton of peach juice. The dry roll helped Cat a bit as she was feeling sick and the winding roads were not helping. Then on came the videos again dubbed in Spanish. At 10am just after leaving Nazca we pulled into a Grifo (petrol station) for a half hour stretch. when we got back on the bus it was boiling hot and once again we assumed that the AC would get turned on. Now what does assume make? An ass out of u and me! Half an hour into the journey I had to ask only to be told that the AC was broken! It worked fine last night when we didn't need it! To make things worse a few hours later the bus pulled onto the hard shoulder and out came the suitcases and a dog cage with a dog in it (it turns out that the couple next to us had two dogs) with no water for 18hrs in a boiling hot cargo hold (I'm surprised it was still alive) and then out came the spanners! Oh dear what now! Half an hour later and none the wiser, we were off again but still with no AC! Lunch came around at 1pm with again a roll this time buttered, more crackers and some chocolate  (with cinnamon) biscuits and a nice cold cup of Fanta. Finally at 6pm we arrived at the bus station, grabbed our bags, caught a cab and got to our room for a long awaited shower, and I can tell you it was lovely!
