Every time that I've planned to do The Ridge Walk here on Sao Jorge, it's been covered in fog. The ridge is impossible to attempt if it's foggy or windy and being Sao Jorge island, it gets its fair share of fog.
But today it was clear so the 3 keen walkers and I took it on. Everyone else relaxed poolside instead, which at the end of the day when utterly fatigued and sweat-drenched, I reflected on as being the more sensible of the options.
Oh the joy of being Tour Leader on a walking holiday and maintaining that enthusiasm for yet another walk!!
Anyway, The Ridge is phenomenal - views down the island of volcanic cones and down both coasts to the Atlantic.
It's certainly one of the more challenging walks, and the last descent to Faja do Ouvidor is hard on our knees, difficult to concentrate and it's an absolute relief to finally sit down at the nearest cafe!
