Like my own surname, this town is not pronounced as it's spelt ... Ouazazate (wah-zah-zat!)

The main industry of this oasis town is movies. The film sets are named Morrocan style (Atlas studios for one) and the sets are everything from Tibetan temples, Egyptian palace facades, a medieval castle and famed for Alexander and of course, Gladiator.

Oh Russell Crowe where are you???

Ait Benhaddu, on the outskirts of Ouazazate is a living breathing Berber village and absolutely gorgeous in that quaint, mudbrick style. A somewhat unlikely place for a movie, but it was here they shot some of Gladiator and had used an old arena for the gladitorial games scenes.

Very exciting but we have to content ourselves with simply envisioning Russell in his Roman garb and the occasional photo in some souvenier merchant's house is the only proof that Gladiator Woz Ere
