The whole event is meticulously planned. It started right on 9pm and each of the 6 samba schools have a maximum of 1 hour and 22 mins from start to finish. They are deducted points if they go over that time. There is only 10 mins from when one school finishes until the next one starts.  We left at 5:30am, just as the last school was finishing up. We will find out who won on Wednesday night.

Each school must do a minimum of 4 floats (everyone we saw did between 6 and 8) and there must be a minimum of 200 dancers (but each of these schools had between 1,000 and 2,000). I have never seen anything like it in my life! It was a spectacle beyond belief - lucky I have 300 photos to show you all! Bet you can't wait for that slide night!!!

We got back to the hotel at 5:50 (lucky we left when we did as we got back without much traffic - all very well organized) which gave us 10 mins to wash up before breakfast. Had a bit to eat but resisted the coffee as I wanted to go to sleep for a few hours. Just had to type this up first! Night ( I mean morning! )

I ended up getting out of bed at 2:40pm, showered then met Linda downstairs at 4pm. We were wondering what to do when we realized a "bloko" (street party) was commencing on our street. Amazing! We grabbed a caprihina to get us in the mood then joined in the party with the locals. I have included a few photos to this blog.

Today turned out to be the best unplanned day ever. After dancing away down our street as the party moved to the beach! We decided to find a table on the beach so we could sit, soak up the atmosphere and get another caprihina - when in Rio ...

We then found a great little restaurant on the beach and had BBQ chicken with salad (trying to be healthy - no chips!) - yummy. We then thought we would walk along te promenade as it was a balmy 26 Degrees still and came across another street party. Man, the people in Rio love to party and you can't help but join in!

When this little party finished we realised there was a quaint little wine bar near us and as we both felt like coffee, decided to venture in. Coffee was great - not something we have seen much of in Rio. We then thought we would have a glass of red wine to top the day off. A lovely Brazilian Merlot for 15 reis (about 7 AUD) - fantastic. We were both very pleased with how our day panned out. It's these sorts of things you wouldn't necessarily do on your own so we were both thrilled we had found someone who liked similar things.

Went back to the hotel around 11:30 and it was still 24 degrees. Ah summer... I haven't seen one drop of rain since being here.

Last night tonight of this tour. Breakfast tomorrow to say farewell then onto the Southern Highlands and my next adventure.
