Started a bit later today as tonight we head to the Sambadrome for the all night Carnaval parade.

After breakfast I walked along the boardwalk alongside the beach and soaked up the atmosphere. I have included some shots from my late morning stroll. This afternoon will be siesta time then Linda and I will meet at 5:30 for whatever the lunch/dinner meal is called. Then at 7:30 we head off to the Sambadrome and the parade will commence at 9pm.

There will be 6 Samba schools competing tonight. Each school gets about 1 1/2 hours to do their thing then there is a 10 min break before the next school comes out. It should all finish by 5am and then we have to get back to our hotel. I think I will have to have some Barocca's before I go out tonight!

After a bit of a rest this afternoon Linda and I met up at 5:30 to find somewhere for lunch/dinner. We found a great little place around the corner from our hotel and ordered the grilled chicken (Franka  in Portuguese!) with salad. It was like a chicken breast squished then BBQ'd - delicious. At 7:30 we were loaded onto a bus and travelled to the Sambadrome. What an amazing venue - it contains 12 grandstands and the arena is 1 km long. Makes you feel for the ladies in sky high shoes that samba the entire way down there and not even in a straight line - they go from one side of the arena to the other so they can shimmy in front of each grandstand several times. (Grace, you would have loved the shoes!)

Because the show continued all night! I have split this update to the next day.
