Where I stayed

Today we had a free day with a choice of activities in and around Jaipur. I was in two minds about whether to visit Amber Fort and in the end, missed my alarm. Obviously I needed the sleep. Whilst the others took the 12k tuk tuk ride to the Fort I got myself sorted, did some washing and repacked my rucksack as its been driving me mad for days. After that I ordered breakfast to eat on the roof. It was lovely and warm upstairs and I really enjoyed the muesli and toast that I had ordered. Bumped into Steine and Marta from my tour and we all decided to head to the City for some shopping.

We managed to find our way to one of the entrances of the city and survived crossing the roads a few times. Came across a couple of random camels on our walk as well as a funeral procession. As you do...

I needed to get a bigger day rucksack as my tiny one is really annoying me. As luck would have it, I found a "top quality" bag at the first try. Throughout the day we had great fun bargaining with the traders. I'm getting better at haggling and managed to bag some scarves for 250INR each, down from the starting price of 1,600 rupees. Mum, Lib, Susie and Leah you have a little pressie coming (that is if Katrina can fit them in her luggage on her way back from Sri Lanka!!).

On our walk around the bazaars a little boy named Chivvy approached us and followed us around. He was very sweet and was desperate for us to visit his restaurant. In the end he was very handy for giving directions to where we wanted to go so we have him some money as a reward for his persistence!!

Without the help of Chivvy it was very difficult to find our way around. In the end we decided that the map was wrong (I couldn't possibly be our map ready skills) and we jumped in a tuk tuk to take us where we needed to go.

In the last shop we visited they offered to let us try on saris- which I did. The one I tried didn't really go with the dress I had on, but it was a funny experience.

After shopping we walked miles to get to the MI road for some food. On the walk I was concentrating so much on negotiating the treacherous ground (haha) that I walked fully pelt into a road sign!! What a wally!! It bloody hurt, abs I was a bit dazed. I was very happy when we made it to Moti Mahal (supposedly started by the person who invented tandoori chicken).

After dinner we met the rest of the group to go and see a Bollywood movie at the Raj Mandir theatre. The tickets was 90INR (just over a pound!). The film showing was Don 2. It was a bit cheesy, but as I love cheesy films I didnt mind it. It was surprisingly easy to follow eventhough there were no subtitles.

After the cinema we went back to the hotel in tuk tuks. I tried to Skype Mum at home but as wifi was only available on the roof, the signal wasn't great and all I caught was William saying my name and Mum reading out an error message!! Haha

Sounds like a great way to spend a free day, what a shame about walking into the sign, snigger snigger. Bet chivvy skipped home with his earnings for the day x

It seems that you packed a lot into one day - try to avoid the road signs in future - and remember your eyes are one of your best assets, so keep them wide open. The blog paints a clear picture of the atmosphere of your surroundings, save the sights and smells - which I am sure are quite vivid !

Already looking forward to the third installment. xxx
