Day 1 of 170 odd and oh dear, here come the tears! I think I had done quite well up until today to avoid crying. But, I can't deny it, it was a very emotional departure from Southend on Sea! All the family were there, except Susie who chickened out of a proper goodbye the night before!

The last supper (well, lunch) was William's "dream" lasagne. Wish I had thought to take a photo of everyone as they waved me off. It would have been a cracker although perhaps might have spoiled the moment a bit! Lucky to have great family and friends, but it does make it a lot harder to make the break! Still, I've done it now so no need to dwell.

Dad the Chauffeur ferried me safely to Heathrow in plenty of time to catch my night flight (thankfully no turbulence). Got almost no sleep probably due to nerves and anticipation.

Luggage arrived intact which I was relieved at because I had a sudden though part way through the flight that I hadn't tightened the buckles- had visions of me chasing pairs of knickers around the luggage carousel. Seemed to have worried for nothing- sound familiar Mum?? Haha

Found hidden notes in my luggage from Mum and Leah, Rich and Eva- sneaky!!!

First impressions of Delhi are that its much colder than I expected. Regretting leaving my long PJs at home! It was a big wrench and I could use them about now! Unfortuately as the shower was also cold, so I had to put my Glastonbury training to good use and be as sparing as possible with the water- a good thing anyway I guess. Apart from the weather I haven't really managed to get a proper sense of what the city is like yet. Will get on that tomorrow when the tour starts!! Just wanted to get of the mark as I know Annabel (my eldest neice) is looking forward to finding India on her globe and marking it off!

Journey to Heathrow took 1 hr 45 minutes only door-to-door - but the roundabout turn off at M4 was totally grid locked 20 mins after dropping you off ! At that stage I did not give a jot tho - having got you to the church ahead of time = only minutes later and total carnage on the road - just sat there thinking what might have been !

Looking forward to seeing plenty photos posted - using the new camera - learn to use the timer so we can see some with you in them :-)
