Where I stayed
Royal Hotel, Cairo
Our last afternoon in Cairo was spent at the Egyptian National Museum. Amazing artifacts but very poorly displayed, with the exception of the royal mummies and King Tut. Since we didn't have a lot of time, and TT was tired, so the last thing we checked out were the very cool animal mummies.
Since our flight wasn't until 1 a.m., we didn't want to spend the evening freezing outside or bored at the airport, so Ivan booked a night at the Royal Hotel. More like a hostel, it was a good thing we weren't actually spending the night. Music blasted up from the streets. People were dining and smoking their sheesa.
The international terminal at the airport was complete chaos, with no information available as to where to go. Accosted once again by touts, I mean "porters," if you don't want to pay, you have to guess. All I can say was I was glad to get out of there, and on the plane.
