Where I stayed
Mo, our guide, was a bit of a peacock. We think he was a little tired of the tourist trade, though he did a good enough job of explaining what we were looking at at each site.
Karnak is as amazing as I remember it. Beautiful columns and all the hues of the desert. Hieroglyphics. Obelisks. Pharaohs. Incest (brothers marrying sisters). Conquering and slavery. Ramses II was a brute.
Met an nice old man who pointed out all the photographic views of one of the obelisks. Didn't mind paying him a few lira, as he was a friendly, sweet type of 'guide.'
Our next stop was Luxor temple
The last part of our day was spent poolside. This is the part TT loved best. Parents had to rotate while TT turned into a shrivelled prune.
We walked into the centre of town, initially harassed by touts selling 5 Lira caleche rides to the market where they ditch you, and kids sell 1 Lira souvenirs made in China. Our hotel is close to Luxor Temple, so once we got past the site, we were left alone. We tried to go to a recommended restaurant, but it was full, and they turned away anyone who didn't have a reservation. Since it was late, we went for the next best thing... Egyptian fast food, which in the end, wasn't really that fast.
