We land in Merida to find thick cloud and heavy rain which is not quite what we were expecting. Several streets around the city are a foot under water!

In the morning its hot, damn hot and the water evaporating makes it that lovely humid sticky hot that we all love. 37c and 80% humidity, lovely. We sweat our way around the main sights in town and jump on a sightseeing bus for a few hours (for the breeze more than anything). The mozzies are biting Rich for fun or so it seems and all in all its a relief when at 6pm the next thunder storm kicks in.

Next day we bus hop along the Ruta Puuk and view the Mayan temples of Labna, Xlapak, Sayil, Kabah and finally get to Uxmal (oosh-mahl) late in the afternoon. All of the sites are impressive but Uxmal is good even for us jaded travellers! Theres also loads of iguanas sunning themselves everywhere, you practically trip over the little buggers.

When we get back to Merida it starts to rain, seems to be the way here, hot and sticky days and wet nights... to quote Good Morning Vietnam "nice if you're with a lady, but it ain't no good if you're in the jungle".

That said we make our way to the coast in the morning.
