A shitty flight though the night and we are in Mexico City. Landing early in the morning sounded good on paper but meant we caught the rush hour traffic into the city. 2hrs in a cab to get to the hotel by which time we are both in need of a shower, bed and beer (in no particular order).

Fortunately we are in the JW Marriot and so our room is ready and is as comfortable as you´d expect! Snoozed, cleaned and a few beers later we find a little taco stand nearby and load up on good cheap mexican food. Bliss.

Sightseeing, its been the Mexican election recently and they´ve not gone well... widespread corruption and illegal voting practices seem to be reported everywhere. As a result the Paseo de la Reforma through the city is one long line of political protesters camped out waiting for the final verdict on the 6th Sept (the vote was on the July 2nd). As a result the main squares and public areas are not the wide open plazas we expected to see! There´s still loads to see and we take in the Teocalli of Tenochtitlan and the Templo Mayor where the Aztecs believed the centre of the universe was. We spend the day strolling through the zona historic.

A visit to Mexico City would not be complete without seeing Teotihuacan (teh-oh-tih-wah-kan). It is simply awesome, the place is huge. We climb the pyramid of the sun (now widely understood to be a temple to water and rebuilt incorrectly in the early 20th century). The money shot has to be the view from the top of the moon pyramid looking down the avenue of the dead.

We have gained a few days extra by moving quicker than anticipated through Peru and so, never ones to overlook an opportunity, we decide to head to Guadalajara for a few days...
