A quick 5 hours on a bus takes us across Malaysia to Mersing. The landscape is impressive - jungle and rain forest as far as the eye can see and the bus is comfortable, air conditioned (that works) and roomy.

From Mersing its a 2 hour ferry across to the island.

We hole up on Salang beach, its sandy with a reef just below the low water line. Perfect for diving and snorkling. Fish barbq's every night.

Needless to say we don't do a great deal for a while, read, fall asleep in hammock, eat...there is no internet hence the lack of updates.

Rich finds some motivation and goes diving for a few days, gets his PADI Advanced open water qualification and Nitrox speciality.

Cath snorkles around and gets her own tour guide for the last day (its Rich who has dived the reef earlier and so knows what to look out for) We see turtles, a big undulated molray eel, some batfish, a school of huge lumphead parrot fish, cube boxfish and even some reef rays. Cath can't understand why anyone needs to go diving when everything can be seen from the surface, rich is amazed at how lucky cath is!

This is the break we have been waiting for and so after a week we feel refreshed and ready to take on the world.
