When travelling Ive learned to expect the unexpected, but sometimes when I know something is inevitable its even harder...

I opened my inbox the other day to see 2 rather blunt emails from Mom & Dad... saying my amazing 96 yr old great Aunt Ruth was in her last days..Yep, at 96 it wasnt a surprise that her time was running out, but this news sent me in a bit of a tailspin and it didnt feel right to cope with the loss of such an important person in my life away from family, in South America, so i decided (with amazing support from Cass) to hop on the next plane to New York.

Afterr huge delays, i finally arrived in New York at 5am, and opened the door to my aunts apartment to find my sleepy dad, and just by looking at his tired eyes, I knew I had missed her...my Aunt Ruth had passed away 4 hours before.

Aunt Ruth was a unique woman who was incredibly loving, kind, graceful, funny, lighthearted, who loved to help others, hated cooking, cleaning or anything else domestic...she loved living and laughing...on a video of her dine about 2 years ago, she said the secret to her longevity was being pickled in alcohol´...and her closing words on the tape were to Keep Lauching.

The funeral was an appropriate tribute to such an amazing woman...she really was one of a kind, and the words spoken by family and friends were both soothing and inspiring...

I was SO happy that I had decided to make the trip and spent the week with Family talking, looking at old family photos from the early 1900s, sharing, bonding...which was exactly what I needed....

So after 6 days in culture shock of premature arrival in New York... it was time to head back to the Gringo highway...
