11/20 - Today I woke early and antsy. I think the wind makes me this way and it was very windy last night on the roof. I was nervous about the weather because we were about to head to a small island and I wanted it to be perfect. The weather was not perfect, but Casey said we should go anyway and see how it turns out. She was right as usual. After breakfast we got a boatout to Tobacco Caye. The ride with Captain Buck in his small boat was pretty rough and slow going. I think my mother would have puked on the other riders, that is if she got on the boat in the first place. Tobacco Caye is a small island of about 5 acres with 6 hotels on it. Our cabin was perched over the water, with our back deck right on the water. Pretty freaking cool. All of our meals were included and were eaten in the dining area with the other guests of the Paradise Inn. After settling in and chillin on the porch for a bit we were called in for lunch. Our hostess asked if we ate everything, I said not usually fish but I would if I had to. After lunch we chilled some more on our porch, read, listened to some music and enjoyed the views. Our side of the island was very windy so we were in long sleeve shirts. After a short 5 minute walk around the island we decided to go snorkling. We swam about 1/2 way around the island, the water was very clear. It is so cool to be able to see such great things right off our own beach. We saw an eagle ray, some real cool fish and coral and 2 eels. Great snorkling! Dinner was beef with rice and beans, the family we were sitting with is from Canada and real nice. We brought our own rum and juice with us for fear that the drinks on the island would be way to pricey, so we sat on our porch and drank as the sun set! This really was paradise! Only if that damn wind would stop.
11/21 - Today we both actually slept in, totally out of character, we must be relaxed. After breakfast we went over to the sunny side of the island, I know it sounds crazy but even on a 5 acre island the weather is different from one side to the other. There was no wind on this side so it made a great place to lay in the sun and read the morning away. They guy from canada came back from fishing with three large baracudas, for dinner he said. Great, I guess I am going to be eating fish... sooner than I thought too. Lunch was fried fish and she didn't bring anything else different for me. Well I did say if I had to eat it I would. Well I had to, and guess what I actually liked it! I know, crazy a boy from Long Island who didn't eat fish. It only took 30 years and a tropical Island to get me to like fish. In the afternoon we snorkled out and around the reef, the waves were not too bad and the coral was amazing. Giant brain coral, fan coral, and more cool fish incuding a 5 or 6 foot baracuda. After swimming for almost 2 hours we chilled on the non-windy side til dinner. I even liked the snapper that was served for dinner, I guess I really do like fish now. Being that we love to snorkle and love paradise we decided to stay one more day.
11/22 - Glad we stayed one more day, it was a calm sunny beautiful day! Opened all our windows and chilled on the porch this time without long sleeves. Today we snorkled twice, the first one was long, around the island and then out to the reef. The sun was out and the sky was clear so the visibility was amazing and the colors were vibrant. We saw some more eels and rays. Once again I ate fish for lunch. I know I am making a big deal of me eating fish but for those that know me also know of my past aversion to fish. Before our next snorkle we relaxed in the sun on the non-windy side, I read and Casey painted. I love that she is so relaxed that she can paint. Our second snorkle was short but just as exciting as ever, more eels, another eagle ray and an octapus.
This little vacation from our vacation was amazing, this really is a great little island. Tomorrow we leave paradise for more paradise.
