Hey everybody, thanks for keeping up with us while we go and explore Central America. We are both new to this type of journaling, so this should be fun.
It is now about a month before we leave the country, and our trip is seeming more real every day. Right now we are living in Summit County Colorado, near Keystone. I say near because we are living in a tent in the national forest. I guess you could say we are "squatting". It is a neat little campsite right on the snake river. Not to worry we are very safe. We are both working trying to save as much money as possible before we leave. Casey is babysitting, or what she likes to call "the tour of the rich" She has been in some amazing houses. I have been life guarding at the local rec center or what I like to call "mind numbing".
We have been able to get out and play a bunch as well, some hiking and backpacking. We climbed Mt. Massive the second tallest mountain in Colorado, We've done a few alpine hikes to some amazing lakes, including a hike to Chasm Lake at the base of Longs Peak. We also did an amazing backpack in Rocky Mountain NP to Thunder Lake. This was a 3 day backpack with some great and very wet day hikes, we got caught in a hail storm above tree line, that was loads of fun.
The plans we have so far are to meet Casey's parents in Grand Teton National Park to spend some time with them before we leave, and then do a short backpack in the park. Then we head to NY on the 18th of Sept. and spend some time with my family in the Big Apple, then take a bus down to my friends Phil and Kemp in the D.C. area for a few days. We then head out on the 28th of Sept. Our first stop is going to be Cancun, Mexico. Don't worry we are not planning on staying there at all but to head right out to Isla Mujeres. Believe it or not we got a flight to Cancun from Baltimore Md. for $47 each, one way. I know I'm a bit worried as well but we shall see, my brother says we are going to board a bus, and others have commented that it is going to be a cargo plane with no seats. We shall see, you might want to wish us luck on the 28th!
