We left San Luis after an amazing hike into Parque Nacional Sierra de las Quijadas. After getting dropped off in the middle of nowhere by a double decker bus (they all are here) we hike 6km or 3.6 miles to the entrance of the park. Although we thought that a guide would take us through the park soon after we got there, we realized that we would have to wait three and a half hours until the five hour hike began. Luck would have it that I was wearing my sandals and hadn´t worn them since the summer. Not a good idea when you are going to be walking almost ten miles. I had to cut off my shirt sleeves with my trusty leatherman and tie them around the painful sores on my feet.

Arriving by bus to Mendoza, we realize that the lingo of our travel guide book makes Mendoza seem a cute small town, but has 1.3 million occupants. Just one more obstacle of the day. We woke late, couldn't find a taxi when we needed one, the bus ride was longer than expected, the reading lights would not turn on and Sophia´s ipod broke. Things were just not going our way yesterday. Today we are going on a wine tour, as Mendoza is the countries wine capital, somewhat like Napa Valley in California. We are also thinking of going river rafting and horseback riding into the Andes.

The downtown of Mendoza that we have seen so far is great. There are waterways between almost every street and sidewalk that has river fresh water flowing through them. Although you might picture this to be beautiful, while in some areas it is, in others the waterways are full of trash. But in general so far, there has been a lot of trash around the streets. One unpleasant experience is when a gust of wind comes up and blows trash all over you. In one case, I managed to get a small, bad tasting chunk of something I wish to never know, in my mouth.
