My trip is going to start tomorrow, at exactly 4:30 in the morning when Kris and Bobby come to pick up Ben and me for the airport. It's going to be a sleepless night for sure.
We are both excited and anxious: it has been more than a year since our grant was approved. For a long while we couldn't firm up a contact in China, despite our efforts through the Chinese consulate and friends. Things took a turn when Howard Community College and CCID offered a much needed helping hand in March, and all of a sudden we are going to Suzhou!
Everything seems ready now except for the final challenge - packing. It's the art that I have not mastered despite my love for travel. "Pack light and travel happy," claims Rick Steve of the PBS travel series. Well, it's easier said than done. I think I've spent more than three days on thinking about what NOT to bring. Mix-and-match, travel-size bottling, and going neutral on clothing. I'm doing all these and still need to cut some more. Note to self: downsize, downsize, downsize.
Packed light or not, I'm flying to Shanghai tomorrow. More updates from Suzhou next.
