So we made it this far...1,000 miles done and only 2,000 to do! Great to finally be in Jellystone...kids just need to see Yogi and they're made!

Arrived last night into Grant Village and set off early this morning to head up to Old Faithful. Scarily they say that a third of the US population has visited this one geyser, so it's not quiet!

We spent the day up in the area, and it was magnificent. Possibly in fact the most underwhelming bit was Old Faithful itself. We saw it erupt first of all from the rows of benches with a few thousand other people, and I have to say I was expecting more. However we did see it again from the hill behind and it looked far more impressive there.

We then headed into the amazing Visitors Centre and Emily and Archie both signed up for the Young Scientist programme, which was brilliant. It set a hypothesis which they then needed to research and prove/disprove using the kit provided in a backpack. It kept us going for about three hours, testing geysers with a laser thermometer and trying to identify whether the hot springs were "alive".... excellent! This programme took us all round the Old Faithful boardwalk area, and we saw all sorts of pools, exploding things and bubbling lakes...

We had pretty much had enough of both the crowds and heat by this point, so headed up to Biscuit Basin, where we walked round the boardwalk to the stunning Sapphire Pool and plenty more before swimming in the Firehole River, fed by all the hot springs...really lovely.

As it got a bit cooler, we walked from there down to Morning Glory...seriously stunning hot pool, with incredible colours. Children did really well today. Em and Archie managed about 6k in total in the three walks...and Mima about 3k. They fell asleep pretty fast tonight!
