After finally getting some decent sleep I woke up for my first full day in Christchurch. My mum, cousin and I made the extremely short walk (about 2 mins literally!!) to The Palms 'mall'. I remembered a lot of the layout from when I was younger, particularly the natural new zealand ice cream standard, the location of McDonalds and the two supermarkets on either ends; one called K-mart. This was also the mall I first had my ears pierced in when I was 12 however unfortunately the particular shop is no longer there. We stopped for a coffee (well mum had a coffee, my cousin and I had juice) and a muffin before returning home to meet the guy who had come to fit in the Wifi at the house!

After the wifi was fitted my mum was told her car, which she had delivered from England, was finally ready to be picked up! So we hopped on a bus, only costing 3.50 NZD (under 2 so pretty cheap compared to the prices I've paid in Southampton for buses recently..) to go collect it. We had to change buses in central Christchurch at the bus station to get to where we were going so we took the opportunity to have a look at the new Re:START mall.

This part of Christchurch was badly damaged from the earthquake so locals had started a kind of pop up mall area out of ship containers which they've painted bright colours. I had seen pictures of this area and wasn't expecting to like it so much but it was quite quirky and the coffee shops were incredible! We stopped in one where I had a gorgeous creamy hot chocolate and a sausage roll. When I say a sausage roll.. wow. Not like they are in England! It was HUUUGE! And you could tell it was real sausage, there was so much favour to it. I thought I enjoyed a Greggs sausage roll until I tried this one.. it made Greggs look like awful processed rubbish! Also came with ketchup on the side.. and it may sound strange but the ketchup was so real as well. A lot of ketchup in NZ comes in tin cans instead of bottles like we have in England but I remember the smell and good taste from visiting here before. Sounds silly but again tastes so fresh.

After our coffee break we jumped on the next bus to pick up mums car which had a flat battery.. after getting it jump started we were instructed to take it for a bit of a drive as it hadn't been running in months!! So mum drove us down to Sumnar, a coastal seaside area of Christchurch. The weather wasn't great but the views were still stunning.. the mountains and hills back drop to the sea was beautiful and we drove up to the top of one of the hills.. planning on heading back to take one of the nature walks down there! Also saw a lot of earthquake damage there as well where parts of cliffs had fallen today!

After our scenic drive, we headed back home where Grandad once again had made us a beautiful dinner to enjoy before heading back to bed (still a little jet lagged)!
