Not being such a fan of flying myself I was slightly worried about the flight but it was excellent!! I was lucky enough to be in the first row of seats so had lots of extra leg space and with Channing Tatum on my mini TV screen to keep me company I was quite happy ;) I watched White House Down, The Bling Ring (which I had been dying to see) and Safe Haven.
White House Down: excellent, a must see.
Safe Haven: Another Nicholas Sparks novel so you could say I kind of knew what to expect however the film trailer itself didn't make me that keen to see it but with such a long flight, anything is worth watching to waste the time. However, I found I did throughly enjoy it. Without spoiling the plot line, the film started off dark and slightly scary which threw me. The lead female character runs away to a tiny quiet seaside town/village (whatever is smaller) and you are instantly intrigued and wanting to know what provoked her to run away from her previous town. Definitely worth a watch if you enjoy those kinds of movies.
However, back to traveling.. Dinner was also provided on the flight along with whatever drinks you'd like, snacks, dessert and cheese and crackers and wow has airplane food changed since I last ate it.. I had lamb for my main and although the menu indicated a sticky toffee type pudding for dessert (which I don't like), I was delighted to have been given a praline chocolate mousse type dessert!!
When I arrived at Dubai airport I wasn't really sure what to expect, apart from lots of designer shops - which I did find!! The airport was so long it gave the illusion of being smaller than it was but it literally went on forever. Only being there for three short evening hours (if that once you factor in boarding time) and having already eaten dinner on the plane I restrained myself from a Starbucks costing 21.00 in whatever currency they use over there and saved myself the hassle of changing any money. The airport was massive though.. I even had to take a tram to the next terminal for my flight!!
After meeting another Brit by chance who was also on my flight (all the next ones as well) heading to Christchurch too, we buddied up so I did not get lost. Everyone then boarded the next plane heading towards Bangkok...
