After our marathon stint in Bangkok we headed off for a little R&R in the Thai islands - first stop Ko Samui.
Of all the places that we have been on the trip, this is one that we have been very much looking looking forward to for one simple reason - Paul's Mum & Dad were here on holiday and we had arranged to meet up. As we arrived at about 10.30 at night we agreed to meet next morning. From the airport we jumped in a minibus and headed to our modest guesthouse just around the corner from their plush hotel. As we got close, who should we see crossing the road but Paul's Mum and Dad! After quickly checking in we sat down and caught up on 8 months worth of news over a few ice cold Singha's!
It was really nice to see Mike and Enid after such a long time - although after initially seeing them it really didn't seem like it was over 8 months ago when we last saw them in a freezing cold Chesterfield. As well as treating us to lots of meals and drinks they also bought some home comforts too - the latest editions of Now & New and a bottle of wine for me, licquorice Allsorts and Eccles cakes for Paul and a mountain of chocolate for us both. After shedding a couple of pounds on our trip to date I'm sure that we put it all back on!
For the next 4 days we did very little apart from lounge on the beach, eat and drink. We didn't see any of the sights or wander away from the beach - it was lovely! One of my favourite bits was when Enid and I left Paul and Mike watching football in the bar to take in a local cabaret show. This was a cabaret with a difference though as all the participants were ladyboys! For an hour they entertained us with a singing and dancing campfest wearing extragavent dresses, big hair, even bigger heals and a mountain of make up!
After 4 days it was time to say our goodbyes as their holidays came to an end. It was also time for us to leave Samui as well so we jumped on a boat to our next destinatiom
Here are the photos.
Next stop, Koh Phangan.
