After our relaxing stay on the tiny island of Gili Air, we headed off to Senggigi on neighbouring Lombok. Another blog about relaxing, beaches, sunsets and eating I'm afraid - after 5 & ½ months on the go it has been lovely to relax and not do too much.
Our minibus from the port at Lombok to Senggigi helpfully dropped us outside of a travel agent, this was handy as we hadn't booked a place to stay. The travel agent solemnly told us that as this was busy season, all the hotels in the area were full as it was high season but luckily for us he did have one of the last rooms in town for only £20 - a whopping 4 times what we paid in Gili Air. We thought that we would take our chances and find one on our own - as it turned out the beachfront hotel just next door to the travel agent had lots of rooms free for £7.50! This even included Air con and a proper shower with clean and not muddy water, luxury (although not as quaint) compared to Gili! That extra £2.50 goes a long way. I think that we have learnt that travel agents are not the most honest of folks in Indonesia - the equivalent to estate agents in the UK.
The next 2 days were spent lounging, swimming, eating delicious spicy Lombok specialities (Lombok is famous for it's chillies), watching the sunset behind a huge volcano on Bali just across the sea and sending yet another parcel home (we are up to 25Kg now!). We also had an unsuccessful evening scouring the local pubs in search of a TV showing the opening Ashes match - it doesn't sound like we missed much! We also did see a little of the local culture, just a 20 minute stroll down the beach was a beautiful temple the was on some rocks by the sea, full of beautiful carvings and statues of deities dressed in black and white chequered shrouds. It was quite a sight even though it was small - it took 15 minutes to see. At least we can say that we have done something (briefly) other than relax in the last 8 days!
Here are the photos!
Next stop the Indonesian capital of Jakarta (Miles away from the beach unfortunately so we are back to proper travelling).
