Passing through
After a long flight from LA to Heathrow we found ourselves with several hours free before our flight up North. We took the opportunity to go into the city centre and visit the British Museum - our quest was to find the missing moai.
The moai in question is the only basalt moai. It was removed from Orongo, Easter Island for Queen Victoria, and takes pride of place in the Museum. The moai has the birdman petroglyph clearly visible on its back.
Jet lagged and extremely tired we staggered back to the airport - pleased to have seen the final moai.

the missing moai
I remember hearing about this one on our tour to Orongo. This seems like a particularly historically important one- a bridge from the Moai to the birdman cult.
