Hey guys!

Had another great weekend as you can see by the pics posted!

The weekend started off with a 666 Pub Crawl with work: 6 bars, in 6 hours, starting at 6pm… or so was the plan anyways! The night started off with about 30 coworkers, a lot of whom I had never met so that was good since I got to meet a lot of new people! The crowd thinned out after each bar with people either going home early from drinking too much or sticking around at the other bar while we all moved on to the next one. By midnight which was supposed to be the end of the pub crawl, some of us ended up going to the casino and back out to another 3 bars where we danced until 5:30am! Overall it was an amazing night! J That's the weird thing about Canberra: it’s impossible to find a pharmacy or shop that is open past 5pm, but finding somewhere to drink and dance at 5am isn’t a problem! I had a couple of friends stay over at my place and we managed to get about 3hours of sleep before getting up and starting the next day. I was heading to Sydney early afternoon so I couldn’t sleep in since I had to pack and stuff. Saturday was absolutely gorgeous weather wise (about 22 degrees).. not bad for Canberra winter!!!

I took a bus to Sydney on Sat afternoon and got to Sydney around 5:30pm. I had booked this hotel through this website which has a lot of good last minute deals… I had never had any issues with it so far, but this hotel definitely wasn’t the greatest!!! First off it was in a pretty sketchy neighbourhood (don’t worry dad I didn’t walk in the dark!).. got to my room to find out that the toilet didn’t work. The guy at the reception reluctantly said he was going to send someone to fix it while I went out for dinner. I went to Darling Harbour, my fave place in Sydney so far, for the evening. I did a bit of souvenir shopping, followed by a pedicure and a nice dinner at this Italian café by the harbor. I got back to the hotel to find that although my lovely friend at the reception had 'fixed’ the toilet, after one flush it was broken again. I decided to go to bed early as I then found out that the TV was also broken! Woke up on Sunday morning, took a shower, went to dry my hair… yes, as you probably guessed, hair dryer was also broken! I had to argue with my friend at the reception to let me use another room for 10 minutes to dry my hair! He finally agreed by letting me go in a dirty room that hadn’t been cleaned yet! Bottom line: NEVER go to the Aspire Hotel in Sydney!

I had booked a day tour with Sydney Wilderness Tours to head up to the Blue Mountains on Sunday. They picked me up straight at the hotel at 7am which was pretty convenient. Our first stop was at Featherdale Wildlife Park…. AMAZING! Featherdale is a very hands-on park with every Australian animal. Our bus showed up 45 minutes prior to the opening of the park to the general public (which is why I had chosen this company). We got to see the kangaroos and wallabies being fed their breakfast and got to feed them which was very cool! Afterwards we made our way to the koalas which were still all sleeping when we first got there. They have about 20 of them on site… sooooooooo cute!! After a few minutes some of them woke up and we got to take pics with them and cuddle them! I had heard that they were smelly and unfriendly… maybe it’s just that I was too excited, cause I definitely didn’t notice any odors and absolutely loved every minute with them! J They also had tons of different birds (mostly parrots) , emus, possums, Tasmanian devils, crocs, snakes, spiders (YUCK) and etc. We only spent about 90 minutes there and by the time we left there was about 35 buses of tourists so it’s a good thing we showed up early!

After our wildlife encounters, we drove up to the Blue Mountains where we spent the day driving to different viewpoints of the Mountains. The first one (King’s Tableland) was absolutely amazing as you were literally on a rock shaped like a table on a cliff looking over the mountains! There were no barriers or guardrails or anything, which was sort of scary even for me! Manon: guaranteed you would’ve hated it!! Hahah   The group I was with was small (14 people) and I met some really cool people including a couple from the UK somewhere and some guy from Germany who was also there on his own (working in Sydney for 3 weeks). We had lunch at a revolving restaurants overlooking the mountains, and took a ride down the mountains on the Scenic Railway (renowned to be the steepest railway in the world) and back up on the Skyway (cable car); both were very good! We went to Echo Point after lunch which is the best lookout to see the Three Sisters, the most famous set of mountains in Blue Mtns with old legends around them. After this final lookout, we walked around the Leura village for a while which was a very lovely little city, and stopped at their famous candy store. Imagine Sugar Mountains, but multiply the selection by about 1,000! Yum!  So that finally concluded my day in the Blue Mnts!

Made my way to the airport Sunday night where I enjoyed a good pint of James Squire beer (my new fave beer!) while waiting for my flight. After the eventful weekend, I was really looking forward to going to bed when we landed in Canberra!! However, our plane landed about 5 minutes after another big plane landed from Melbourne, which resulted in having to wait 80 minutes for a cab!!! The wait wasn’t too cool, but I ended up passing the time by chatting with this really nice (and cute and single J ) guy named Ash who was in line behind me. He’s living in Sydney but working in Canberra every second week or so. I’m probably going to meet up with him for a drink at some point this week… if I’m feeling better. I had an amazing weekend, but the lack of sleeping / spending the day outside in the cold has caught up to me and I have a very sore throat right now. I will be going to bed early for the next few nights and will be doubling up on the vitamins to try to get over this thing before my trip to Brisbane (Australia Zoo … steve Irwin zoo!) and the Gold Coast (beaches!!!) this upcoming weekend.

That’s it for me! I hear that you guys have had some very nice amazing hot weather the past week or so, it’s about time! Take care and will keep you updated again soon! J
