Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear Carlos, happy birthday to me! Without any problems, I arrived at Thessaloniki and checked into the Hotel Rex. I decided to have a rest! I was not feeling very well at all. And on my birthday too! Oh well so be it!
It was those insect bites, dehydration or those dodgy vitamin tablets which you will be glad to hear I have thown away!
Around 9.00am, I got the train tickets, I got the train tickets for Skopje, booked the hostel and headed off into the city centre along the main road (Egnatia) and then diagonally down to the sea front where I walked all the way across to the White Tower.
From here, I headed north, past the Byzantine Arch and to the Rotunda. I spent a while ambling along the streets of the Byzantium churches before fatigue for the better of me and I decided to head back (after about four miles of walking) for an afternoon siesta.
After my nap, I set off into the city again this time heading north and following the city wall. I then headed south past the main street to the main square where I sat and watched the choppy harbour for an hour or so. Again, felling tired, I returned to the hotel. Tom (the English lad next door) invited me to have some Jack Daniels before bed.
