Too much sleep in the day equals wake up at 2.00am! I was not tired in the morning nonetheless. It was a beautiful Sunday morning and my knee seemed to be getting better. I felt so alive and grateful.
This time next week, I would be at the airport getting ready to leave this beautiful continent. I was sad to leave Knysna relatively unexplored but that just meant I had to come back (remember the promise I made to Di! I also managed to snap some pictures of Knysna from the truck as well as Sedgefield (where Nick and Di are now living). Wilderness National Park, Wilderness and George.
This are all very wealthy places as well as being in beautiful settings. We trucked on down the N2 until we reached the junction with the road taking us 100km south to the southern tip of Africa and the meeting place of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean. An hour or so later, we arrived at the village of l'Aghulas. I was so excited and felt this was a kind of arrival. It was so windy putting the tents up. I reckon the windiest yet!
Once Bellagio was pegged securely, I got my swimming shorts on and went straight into the sea. It was surprisingly warm. I then walked in my wet shorts and towel the one kilometre trek to Cape Aghulas. And there I was at the tip of Africa. It was a lovely feeling. From 55 degrees north to 33 degrees south in five months.
I am so glad I overcame my fear. And so all I had left to do was to take a swim here at the supposed meeting place of two oceans. I know it is a bit corny but hey after the Nile and the Zambezi, it had to be done. I came back to the lighthouse (1848) for a quick look in the museum before going to the campsite for some maxing and relaxing!
