Where I stayed
If you do the crime then you must do the time! And boy did I do the time today! A post birthday hangover was almost inevitable. I spent the morning nursing this horrible hangover. The morning was hot but it gave me a chance to watch the birds which were around the campsite. One was a beautiful metallic blue colour (a starling I think) and a two tone yellow one. One bird kept calling “go away”. I was hoping my hangover would!
After lunch, we relaxed before setting of on a game cruise in Chobe National Park. We were picked up at 3 o'clock and taken to a nearby jetty where our 22 seater single engine boat awaited us. There were lots of boats in the water of different shapes and sizes! Going up the river, we were next to the Namibian border (the river actually forms the border).
We spotted some beautiful birds in the trees and flying around. We sailed north up to a point where there was a large island in the middle of the river which belongs to Botswana.
We were treated for over three hours to a variety of wildlife. We saw lots of crocodiles, hippos, elephants, giraffes, kudu and impala.
There were so many elephants and just before sunset, a herd of around fifty gathered and walked/swam across the river to the island. It was magical. They are such majestic creatures. They then gathered in front of the sunset in a group. It was singly fantastic.
We returned at dusk (next time, I must take a jumper) and ended the day with a lovely spaghetti bolognaise supper. Again, another wonderful experience to remember.
