Where I stayed
Early start as usual and a very visit to the beach just after sunrise. It was beautiful. The waves, the beach, the sunrise, behind the clouds, the fisherman’s boats, the large ships on the horizon. I sat for a while again feeling that lucky/grateful feeling I keep getting.
After breakfast, we set off to take the ferry back to Dar el Salaam. The group stood out like a sore thumb alongside the other passengers. The crossing was quick and after the rush of people getting on and off, we took a bus to the Zanzibar ferry port and I learned a bit of Swahili (boa) along the way. Sailing out of the harbour and into the Indian Ocean was really exciting. The ocean was so blue and the sky was completely clear. It was so hot.
The sea cat (Kilimanjaro) was very was very busy with people going to Zanzibar and reminded me in some ways of our ferry to Sudan (Not quite the same though). I fell asleep on the front deck and woke up a little sun struck. Stonetown had a very New Orleans/Spanish, familiar feel about it and arming and setting foot off the Africa mainland was a kind of event. How would the next four day be? What adventures lay await? My mind pondered on this strangely!
We took a short walk to the Kiponda Hotel and I had a good lie down before going out to buy chapattis and returning for another lie down! Early dusk I walked to “Freddie Mercury House” and took a photo of the moustache I had suffered for a month. I then shaved it off, watched the sun go down and saved it odd back at FM House. That’s my homage complete! Phew! An extremely confusing (at dark) walk home!
