So hot in the night! The temperature never fell enough for time to be comfortable. Only twice did I get up and that was only to cool down!

A late start began with a squat toilet and the bucket shower on the string seat. I am glad for this experience and it makes you really appreciate what you have at home. How lucky are we with our conveniences? Very! I went with Hazel and Bob to the pastry shop to get some pastries for breakfast. They were delicious and we then joined there others for a second breakfast which consisted of an omelette with tomatoes and a small salad. This really did fill me up for the rest of the day.

As it turned out, I lost my appetite for the remainder of the day. We then played the waiting game. Namely, we were waiting for Athena to arrive from the port. I did some emailing an banking before returning to the hotel for a rest. The sun is so punishing so quickly. Just five minutes of direct sun begins to wear you out. Even in the shade, the heat is incredibly stifling and I found myself continuously getting the bed sheet and wetting it in order wrap it around myself to cool down! We spent the early afternoon simply dodging the heat! Eventually Athena arrived. We packed away and head out into the Sudanese desert.

The landscape was magnificent. It was like a hilly black desert ! Very quickly, we got to the shore of the Nile and set up camp in the late afternoon sun which was still punishing.

I feel really excited about being in this brilliant country. It was time to leave Wadi Halfa but very quickly, I realised I had got very used to the place! The tent went up with no problems. All that was left was the sun down and a lovely pumpkin supper!
