We have not been keeping track of the days of the week and realised that today was a Saturday. We needed to do some repairs before going into Chobe and Moremi. Maun was a “dead dog” even in the week so we had little chance of getting sorted there.
We forgot to mention that we lost one stabilizer leg on the trailer on the road to Katima Molilo before. The list of things to do, was getting longer. Stabilizer, Fuel filter, Gas leak, Tow bar, Spare wheel position, broken fridge, etc.
That and the fact that we had been on the road for three months, camping in a different spot every night and doing about 5-10 hours driving every day. Dust was even between our teeth (or so it felt).
Carla mentioned that she would be in Pretoria to visit the Swiss Embassy and Tom would be coming with to collect the car. Well, that done it for me!! My kids, and granddaughter were going to be at our house and we are far away. It only made sense to go home, see the kids, have the repairs and alterations done, repack the car with the experience we now have, leave behind what we don’t need and pack what we do need. Also we needed to fit a roof rack and to move the jerry cans to the back of the trailer (Currently it is nose heavy when fully loaded).
Besides all that, we seriously needed a break and a rest. Carlos turned south instead of north and we were on the way home!
We just made it to the border at Martin’s Drift with huge relief. We got home at 11pm. The first thing Carlos said the next morning was that he did not have to open a couple of zips to go to the bathroom. I loved everything about it! Sleeping in your bed, having space around you, the radio! Walking around in your PJ’s without having to face people. Staying clean after taking a shower. Having a bath! Need I go on?
We picked Carla and Layla up from Lanseria on Monday and Tomas on Wednesday. We had the best time just being with family and lapping up every little expression of our little Layla. We missed having Luke with us; he had to keep the pot on the boil while Lala was up here. Layla also missed her daddy, especially at bath time as he always gives her a bath.
It was a busy week. It went past way too fast and now it is time to get back on the horse.
We planning leaving home on the 3rd of August back to Botswana.
