After a good cup of filter coffee, we took to the road. The road continues to be badly potholed.  To add to the disgust, youngsters are selling game meat next to the road.  If not game, ducks and chickens or whatever imaginable.  Keeping in mind that we are approaching Gorongosa, one can just imagine where the meat comes from.

At the entrance gate they hand you a slip of paper with the date and time on it.  You are required to hand this in at the camp.  Little did we know, this is to check if you kept to the speed limit on the way there. Lucky for us, we did.

We quickly set up camp and went on our first game drive.  The park is extremely dry.  We did not see one water hole or river with water in it.  The poor animals are thin and weak.  The landscape has its own beauty, even when it is dry.  The blue, blue sky and golden yellow savannas balance each other out perfectly.  We can only hope that Gorongosa gets rain soon.

The park closes during the rainy season.  It must be a completely different scene when it is wet and green.
